What’s the New Year Cookin’ Up?

It’s January, and New Year’s resolutions have come rolling in. Some are personal, while many include fitness and eating well. For exercise, there’s always a gym membership, and for healthy eating, the Oxbow Public Market has your back with its Oxbow Public Market Tour and Hands-On Cooking Class events!

Details on the Oxbow Public Market Tour and Cooking Class

Every Tuesday and Friday through April 7th, you can take a guided tour through the best of the best foods at the market, learn how to hand-select delectable produce and then take all your tasty finds to another location for a hands-on cooking class led by Julie Smith. The entire experience lasts several hours, from 8:45 AM to 2:30 PM, to ensure that you get the most out of your time.

oxbow-public-market-tour-cooking-classThe Oxbow Public Market Tour is highly valuable event, considering, at this time of year, the local farmers markets are no longer open for business. Picking healthy choices at your local supermarket is usually marked with temptations down the candy aisle or frustrating realizations that the ice cream is right next to the frozen veggies! On the other hand, Oxbow Public Market takes you for a ride of nothing but the best produce, spices, meats, and cheeses. New and exciting fruits and vegetables await, perfectly ripened for immediate cooking.

Once the produce is selected, you’ll move to the kitchen for a cooking class, led by chef Julie Smith. She’ll take you through the step-by-step and hands-on process of creating a three-course lunch. Imagine roasted pear salads, steak with butter sauce, blood orange tart, handmade caramel sauce and more. Thankfully, the class includes an apron with Julie Smith’s signature logo, which will come in handy as you prepare your meal. And of course, the best part is saved for last—sitting down and enjoying the fruits of your labor! Alongside your fellow cooks, you’ll partake in the delicious food with an expertly-paired glass of fine wine.

The adventure will leave you wanting more, and luckily, you can do just that, as you’ll be sent home with a recipe booklet. Take all the knowledge you gathered and create a meal on your own in the comforts of your home kitchen!

Class size for the Oxbow Public Market Tour and Cooking Class is limited to nine guests. You’ll get the entire experience for $235. If you’d like to invite someone to the meal who can’t attend the class, the fee is $100.

The meet-up starts at Ritual Coffee in the Oxbow Public Market located at 610 1st Street, Napa, California, 94559. The class itself will take place at 1039 La Quinta Court, Napa, California. You will be responsible for transportation between the two locations. For additional information, detailed sample menus, and more call 707-227-5036 or visit Julie Smith’s website.
