From all-you-can-eat seafood bars to peach-stuffed brioche French toast, Napa Valley takes its brunch as seriously as its vino. So whether you’re loading up for a long day of wine tasting or recovering from yesterday’s adventures, these essential wine country brunches will hit the spot. Bonus: The Mimosas are onlymade with good sparkling (sorry not sorry, Andre).

This chic French bistro features Creole versions of standard brunch favorites; think, a Black Forest ham omelet with spinach and gruyere, blackened gulf shrimp over Antebellum grits, and petite blue crab rolls served with toasted brioche. Start with a pamplemousse mimosa or a glass of draft wine, and then finish with dark chocolate mousse or warm apple tarte tatin. If weather permits, opt for patio seating. Evangeline offers brunch on weekends, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Attached to a family-owned inn that’s all charm and no pretense, the restaurant and brewery at Calistoga Inn offers hearty plates and home-brewed pints. Spend a night in one of the inn’s tidy rooms and wake to mimosas and coffee at the indoor bar, or drop by the riverside patio and dig into an order of brioche French toast for a full-fledged brunch (Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.). The corned beef in the self proclaimed “Best Hash and Eggs” is braised in Calistoga’s Red Ale, which — along with the brewing company’s other brews — is only available onsite. The backyard beer garden is fitted with tables for advanced reservations and large walk-in parties.

Brought to you by Jennifer Bennett, owner of beloved SF brunch spot Zazie, Lovina occupies the former home of the Calistoga Kitchen in downtown Calistoga. Susie’s Remedy (sunny side up eggs, hasselback potato, chopped bacon, melted leek fondue, fontina) pays homage to the town’s lone dive bar, Susie’s, and chases away the worst of hangovers; the “A Lunch Kind of Brunch” section of the menu features less traditional breakfast dishes like chef Jenna Hodges signature Chicken Tiki Yum Yum. The Blood Orange Mimosa comes with a ball of sorbet, just like at Zazie’s. Lovina is open for brunch Monday, Thursday, Friday from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. and weekends 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Choose your adventure at Goose & Gander Sunday brunch (11 a.m. – 3 p.m.): a cozy booth in the lush, laid-back lounge, a stool at the bar of the downstairs tavern, or an airy chair near the outdoor koi pond. The full menu is available at your table of choice and features riffs on brunch standards, including a merguez and egg sandwich topped with nopales, avocado, and country fried quail with brioche french toast. Add a Sunday mimosa, Cucumber Collins, or one of the G&G’s lucious original cocktails (they have one of the largest cocktail menus in Napa Valley).

This homestead restaurant from Long Meadow Ranch offers Sunday brunch (11 a.m. – 3 p.m.) consisting of farm-to-table dishes with candor and care. Their famed Bloody Mary features house-smoked bacon, a stick of jerky, house-pickled veggies, and homemade hot sauce. Sunday brunch dishes include a seasonal hash made of farm-fresh eggs and garden-grown veggies, grass-fed steak, and snowy beignets served with bourbon-caramel dipping sauce. Add a mug of Stumptown coffee, a fresh-squeezed juice, and a can’t-miss order of cheddar-jack biscuits with local honey butter.

Every Sunday (10 a.m – 2:30p.m.), Brix puts on the most epic brunch buffet in Wine Country. There’s a seafood station (oysters, shrimp, clams, smoked salmon), custom-make omelette station, dessert bar, cheese board, a large selection of salads, and hot breakfast classics like eggs benedict, peach-stuffed brioche French toast, grilled sausage, bacon, and tri-tip. If it’s nice out, request a table outside by the gardens and vines. Brix’s brunch buffet costs $42.50 for adults (drinks not included) and $21 for kids ages 7-12.

Located at the Westin Verasa-Napa, right on the Napa River, BANK Café shares a hotel and most importantly, chef Ken Frank with Michelin-starred La Toque. Despite the casual, hotel lobby setting, Bank serves up super-elevated comfort dishes, like a lobster omelette, a waffle topped with bourbon maple syrup, and Frank’s signature Huevos Bendictios (poached eggs, housemade chorizo, corn muffins, and chipotle hollandaise). Breakfast is served Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 11 a.m.; brunch is served on weekends until 3 p.m.

There’s nothing too fancy about this hometown American diner, where you’ll find a sizable menu of substantial dishes and breakfast that’s offered all day, everyday. Dip fluffy house-made beignets in rich salted caramel sauce, dunk chorizo and pepper jack hush puppies in lime aioli, and slather spicy sriracha honey wings with tangy cilantro ranch. Supplement smoked brisket hash or one of four featured “bennys” with draft beer, local wine, a bromosa (a mimosa, sub beer), or black coffee.

Napa’s newest brunch spot has two things that you can’t find elsewhere in Napa Valley: bottomless breakfast cocktails and a bird’s eye view of Wine Country. This al fresco Sunday brunch ($38 per person, 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.) goes down at Charlie Palmer’s Sky & Vine rooftop bar, located on the sixth floor of downtown Napa’s Archer Hotel. Sip unlimited Mimosas — they actually use quality sparkling wine — and build-your-own Bloodys, choose between a doughnut wheel or charcuterie board for the table, and take as many trips to the buffet as you want. The selection includes pastries, salads, smoked salmon (with a killer dill cream cheese), bacon and sausage, and mains like chicken and waffles, and crab orzo pasta.

Having reached a sort of cult status in Napa Valley, Southside Cafe is working on opening its third location in just two years; following overnight success at their original Carneros location, they opened up a second post in Yountville at the Stewart Cellars tasting room. Both locations serve up fresh breakfast staples daily and counter-style with a Latin America twist. Case in point: the Croque Senora, a spicy version of the classic Croque Madame featuring chipotle mornay. The menu has something for everyone, ranging from light and healthy (avocado and fruit toasts, superfood and protein bowls) to heartier offerings, like their wildly popular biscuits and chorizo sausage gravy.

When brunching at FARM at the Carneros Resort (offered Sundays, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.) it’s important to bring friends with like-minded taste buds as the meal is served family-style. For $45 per person, your table gets to select four brunch mains, which are then plated and served in individual portions, one at a time. The 15 delightful options include a lobster roll, brioche French toast, shrimp and grits, and a chicken and waffle. Brunch cocktails are extra, but necessary; the Green Juice on Vacation is a fruit and veggie packed concoction that comes with a buzz.

Early risers and avid eaters will find plenty to pick from at this lively, modern roadhouse located off Sonoma Highway. Named for a Carneros pioneer with a penchant for fruit trees, the modest eatery serves up casual local dishes for brunch (Saturday and Sunday, 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.), including a red quinoa bowl, avocado toast, housemade donuts, and “Green Eggs & Ham,” consisting of poached eggs wrapped in ham, doused in a lemon leek cream. Not to be missed is Boon Fly’s basket of donuts and Bloody Mary, a spicy concoction to kick off the morning.
